Description (Service) Provides oversight and administration of housing programs

Social Housing:
Provides program and subsidy administration to the 15 social housing providers listed below under public, non-profit, co-operative, federal and rent supplement programs, including special needs housing. * Individual Housing Providers provide day to day management of their housing portfolios.

* Porto Village Non-Profit Homes Inc
* Royal Canadian Legion Villa Kingston

Programs:

Social Housing Registry Program: see separate listing for details

Special Needs Housing: upon request, eligible households are placed on the CWL for units modified for accessibility

Rent Supplement Program: on the Centralized Wait List (CWL), some units are subsidized in private and non profit buildings where the tenant pays the Rent-Geared-to-Income portion of the rent to the landlord and the balance is paid by subsidy

Senior Housing: for those who are 65 years of age or older who must apply directly to the Social Housing Registry Program

Secondary Suites Program: forgivable loans for qualified households for municipal fee rebates and/or renovation funding

Home Ownership Program: down payment assistance for qualified persons

Kingston-Frontenac Renovates Program: grants and forgivable loans for home repairs for qualified persons

Capital Investment Program: capital funding in the form of a forgivable loan in exchange for the development of affordable housing

Housing & Homelessness Services System: Housing First approach is practiced locally and includes the following programs: Prevention/Diversion Programs; Housing First/Rapid Re-Housing Program; Emergency Shelters and Homelessness Prevention Fund

Homelessness Prevention Fund: provides funding to low income households (not in receipt of social assistance) which are homeless or at risk of homelessness, to prevent homelessness

Emergency Shelter Services: short term emergency shelter for homeless persons at four locations in the City
