Description (Service) | Income Support Provides eligible people with disabilities who are in financial need pay for living expenses, like food and housing. Support includes drug card for prescribed drugs * mobility devices, batteries and repair * dental care * vision care benefit and hearing aids * health related benefits * assistive devices * guide dogs * utilities * Employment Start-Up Benefit * child care costs * Mandatory Special Necessities -- includes diabetic supplies, surgical supplies and dressings, transportation to medical treatment if cost exceeds $15 in a month * Special Diet Allowance may be available Employment Supports Helps people with disabilities who can and want to work prepare for and find a job. Provides goods and/or services to remove barriers to competitive employment and to assist people with disabilities to attain competitive employment goals available on a voluntary basis * may include the following goods and services -- employment planning and preparation * grooming costs * skills training * job placement * self employment assistance * adaptive technologies for training/employment * books, supplies |

Eligibility | Ages: 16 year(s) and up Income Support Open to adults 18 years and older who live in Ontario, are in financial need and have a substantial physical or mental disability that is expected to last a year or more and makes it hard to care for themselves, take part in community life or work * Family income, assets, housing costs and the size of the family are used to calculate if the client is financial eligible for Income Support and if so, the amount they can receive * Applicants also need to meet the definition of a "person with a disability" as defined under the Ontario Disability Support Program Act Employment Support Open to persons 16 years and older who want to work, live in Ontario, be able to work in Canada, have a physical or mental disability expected to last a year or more and the disability must make it difficult to find or keep work * Students wishing to work part-time while going to school may be eligible for Employment Supports * Clients do not need to be receiving Financial Assistance to be eligible for Employment Supports, however, clients with a taxable income over $51,000 need to contribute toward the cost of their supports * Clients are ineligible if their are eligible for or are receiving disability or rehabilitation benefits from other public or private sources or those receiving financial assistance from Ontario Works. |
