| Description | This program is designed to provide low income families with a vehicle to assist them in meeting their responsibilities as parents and employees, and to enhance their capacity for self-sufficiency.
In partnership with one local high school, the program provides used vehicles free to families of the community with limited financial means. The Society assists the school in finding vehicle donors and, as a registered charity, provides a tax receipt to the donor according to the value of the vehicle. The school provides a professional assessment of reconditioning costs of the vehicles and, when accepted into the program, undertakes repairs (Automotive classes) to meet provincial safety standards. The Society receives applications for the Family Mobility Program and selects the most suitable families to receive vehicles according to established criteria (family revenue, transportation needs, ability and affordability to operate a vehicle, etc.). Individual and corporate sponsors have helped defray the costs of reconditioning and certification of vehicles. |
