The Habitat ReStore: retail outlet open to the public that sells donated new and used home renovation materials * There are two locations in Ottawa: 2370 Walkley Rd at St-Laurent Blvd, 613-744-7769 and 7 Enterprise Rd at Merivale Rd, 613-225-8400 * accepts donations of new and gently used building materials * pop can recycling program * accepts electronic waste
Waiting ListOnce selected a family usually completes their partnering commitment within 2 years.
EligibilityCanadian citizen or landed immigrant * present housing does not meet the family's needs, may be in poor shape, too costly, unhealthy, unsafe, too small, etc. * working with a steady income, but unable to afford or obtain a conventional mortgage and the total family income before taxes is more than approximately $26,000 but less than the low-income limits as required by Revenue Canada per family size.
ApplicationCall the Habitat for Humanity NCR office to get your name on the list for the next Information Session. Application forms are distributed at the Housing Information Sessions only. A Family Selection Committee chooses potential homeowners based on their need.
FeesAbility to repay an interest-free mortgage * work 500 hours (sweat equity) on the building of their own home and other Habitat NCR homes and activities.
